In2Nature Wilderness Camp
We are so excited to introduce a NEW camp this year for students entering grades 5th and 6th this upcoming fall! Our “In2Nature Wilderness Camp” is a step up from our traditional Pollinator Camps and will welcome facilitators from the L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Program and Artsy Doodle Craft Studio.
Campers will meet July 23-25 from 9:00am-12:30pm each day to participate in the following activities:
Day 1
- Take a hike through the Hope Grows property and learn which essentials to bring with you in a backpack that you’ll take home!
- Practice shelter building by making a tent, lean-to, or using a tarp.
- Woodland mapping: your team will embark on a search party to comb through our basecamp for items to bring back and create a map of your surroundings and its resources.
Day 2
- Have fun with nature art.
- Make S’mores Kits to enjoy during fire-building skills.
- Observe pollinator habitats, plant-pollinator relationships, and interdependencies within the web of life.
- Discuss the differences between Honey Bees and Native Bees while making mason bee houses and beeswax candles.
Day 3
- Learn how to use a compass and build a fire (and eat S’mores!)
- Test your knowledge of flora and fauna identification with a scavenger hunt! (Think poison ivy, animal tracks, scat, and more!).
- Microenvironment observation: pick your own special “Sit Spot” where you’ll sit quietly and observe with all your senses, noticing how your Sit Spot changes or if any new creatures come to visit.
